Life in London's Olympic Borough

Newham is a poor area of East London. It was recently ranked 3rd worst place to live in the UK! Yet this area is set to radically change with 3 major projects:
1. The 2012 Olympic games
2. The building of Stratford International railway station (Eurostar) and
3. The building of Stratford City including Europe's largest shopping mall.

Add to this the imminent arrival of Europe's largest aquarium, London Zoo's Biota project) and the development of the Royal Docks and suddenly Newham looks less of a 'write off'.

Over the past 5 years I have toured the borough's primary schools with a bag of Apple notebooks loaded up with video and still images. Students identified as Gifted & Talented work on creating Digital Stories based upon their experiences of living in the UK's 3rd worst place.

This submission aims to show how Apple products are used innovatively to allow children to comment on how they view their neighbourhood.

The views contained in the project are of the author and not necessarily those of The London Borough of Newham.

While photography today is a serious business with fancy software & expensive, sophisticated equipment for capturing images, there are many times the perfect shot presents itself and all one is equipped with is their trusty iPhone camera. Although it only has a 2 megapixel camera, the software available today on the iPhone makes it a viable, complete mobile photography studio from capturing to editing to sharing images on the fly. This exhibit is a showcase of some of the software, techniques, and add-on equipment that can help you make the most of photography using the iPhone.

The debate gives young Americans the answers they need to vote for the future they want, and Americans of all ages their last look before Election Day at where the candidates stand on the same issues.

Take Me Out To The Ball Game: 100 Years of Musical History

I
This EFT will take a look at the timeless song, “Take Me Out to the Ballgame,” written by Jack Norworth and Albert Von Tilzer a century ago. Today, “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” is synonymous with a baseball game’s seventh-inning stretch, but the song was actually written to be performed on home pianos and the vaudeville stage.

Broadcast LIVE from Brooklyn, NY, this EFT will explore not only the song’s history, but also how the song has been performed in various musical genres (waltz, swing, jazz, and modern) for the past 100 years, as well as how these musical styles reflected the way people enjoyed entertainment and everyday life.
